About Us

Stellar is a carefully curated fusion of film, food and beverages, art and entertainment, with McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery proving to be the perfect venue.

Returning for its fifth year, Stellar will showcase the very best of Australian short films from the 2023 circuit, shortlisted from the winners of over 75 film festivals around the country. Entries are by invitation only, with an anticipated 100 award winning films starting on the shortlist, and the final ‘Stellar 12’ being announced in January 2024. The selected films will compete on the night for significant prizes, with winners selected by a panel of industry judges, as well as an audience choice award.

General Admission guests will receive entry to the Sculpture Park where they can wander through the bushland exploring over 100 sculptures of national and international significance, and enjoy an afternoon of outdoor art, live music and the chance to relax on the lawns, before settling in for the film festival. An array of quality food, sweets and beverages will be available to purchase from local stallholders on the night.

The Team

Meet the team behind the Stellar Short Film Festival! Jas and Stu are the husband/wife duo from the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne. Their film festival journey began two decades ago with regular visits to MIFF and Tropfest amongst others around Australia, which inspired the desire to host their own film festival. They’ve also written, acted in, produced and directed short films of their own.

Jasmine Charles

Jas is the team’s uber-organised planner and manager with a wickedly sly sense of humour. Jasmine counts ‘The Outsiders’, ‘Reality Bites’, ‘Before Sunrise’ and ‘She’s Out of Control’ (take a bow, Tony Danza!) amongst her favourite films.

Stuart Charles

Stu was proudly raised in Frankston is our logistics and operations guy - he’ll organise the hell out of anything. His favourite movies have a distinct Richard Linklater flavour to them perhaps with a dash of PT Anderson and a guilty lean towards a cliched ‘coming of age’ film.
