Frequently Asked Questions For Filmmakers

WHEN IS THE NEXT FESTIVAL?

Stellar Short Film Festival 2023 will be held on March 2, 2024.

HOW DO I SUBMIT A FILM?

Stellar Short Film Festival is by invitation only. We'll curate the films to be shown at Stellar from the winners of over 75 different short film festivals held across Australia from 2023. We will shortlist 100 award winning and acclaimed short films and then we will select our program of the very best 'Stellar 12',

IF MY FILM IS SELECTED, DOES SSFF PROVIDE SCREENING TESTS PRIOR TO THE FILM'S SCREENING?

No. We do not have the facilities available to us to provide any screen tests. If you are concerned about your film, please check it prior to sending it to the festival.

IF MY FILM IS SELECTED, WHEN WILL I FIND OUT?

Filmmakers will be notified if their film has been shortlisted as one of the top 100 via email in December.  Filmmakers will be contacted by phone in January if their film is selected as one of the official ‘Stellar 12’ top Australian films.

WILL THERE BE A PRIZE AWARDED TO THE WINNERS?

There will be prizes awarded on the night with judges choosing a winner as well as an audience choice film award, and awards for best performance, best screenplay, best cinematography and ‘special mention’.

IF MY FILM IS SELECTED, WILL THERE BE A FEE CHARGED FOR THE SCREENING?

No, all films selected will enter free of charge and be in the running to win SSFF prizes.

DO I HAVE TO OBTAIN RIGHTS AND CLEARANCES FOR THE MUSIC OR OTHER COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL INCLUDED IN MY FILM?

Yes.

If your film is shortlisted, you must submit a signed release certifying that you have obtained all rights and clearances prior to exhibiting the film at the festival. Stellar Short Film Festival will not be held responsible for any inclusion of uncleared trademarked or copyrighted materials in your project. It is the sole responsibility of the entity submitting the project to secure permission from the trademark or copyright holders of the material in question, whether it is music, stock footage, or any other elements that could violate an existing trademark or
copyright.

WHICH FORMATS CAN BE SCREENED AT THE FESTIVAL?

All films must be submitted via a password protected streaming link. Our preference is Vimeo links; however, we can accept links to other streaming sites including your own site, an unlisted private YouTube, etc. as long as the link is not public. If you have any extenuating circumstances that prohibit you from making a streaming link of your film, please email us at info@stellarshortfilmfestival.com.au.
